Re: UPRR Has Now Also Posted a Warning

Its hard to have respect for complainers about their job.Even at the corner bar, complaing about the company a person works for really makes that person look stupid. Because even though he says its a terrible company, etc;, he keeps going back there to work every day.Only a dummy would do that.BTW just about everyone in the world thinks they have to work too hard for their money and aren’t gettng enough pay or days off.thats justhuman nature and you need to factor it in when you hear people gripe.Ever hear someone say they;re being overpaid ?

Chico

So I guess every railroad employee is a dummy. We all complain about something at some point. How long have you been a railroad employee? How is someone with 30+ years of service going to quit and find another decent paying job? With most people I know the railroad is the only job they have ever had. Not many employers are looking for someone with no job experience outside of railroad work. I enjoy what I do that’s why I come back. I also have a right to complain, and it’s not always about the money. We deserve to be able to come to work and do our job and not be herassed by people who have no concept of railroading. Walk a mile in my shoes with the things I have been through and see how dumb I am.

If you take time to read again what I wrote it was a genearl observation and not directly about any occupation. In fact I don’t think Ive ever met a rail roader in a tavern .No one said you don’t have a right to complin, its just not very becoming becuase complaining to totalstrangers in a public place doesn’t fix the problems. They dont want to hear it either becauase they have their own problems. Just ask any bartender, he’s heard it all from his regulars more than once. He’s probably glad, too because people who are unhappy with their jobs buy a lot of drinks.[(-D]

As someone whom is a PR manager, and a business student, I have to agree with the railroad’s position, but only to a point.

The first thing an employee should ask when giving out information is: would this get me into trouble. Or could it be used against the company.

I highly doubt that the vast majority of the information that gets posted on the site would ever get anyone into trouble, but say an employee of Railroad-A heard a rumor that the company was thinking of merging with Railroad-B and he divluged this information before an offical press announcement was made. This kind of thing could be harmful to the corporation.

At the same time though, the company should take a common sense approach to things as well. By saying that only offically public doccuments are open for discussion seems to me just a little too harsh. Personally I love to hear about the the industry, and it would be absurd to me if I asked an engineer say, if he favored EMD or GE engines and he had to respond with “no comment.”

In short, it’s the employee’s responsibily to use common sense when they post, and it is the responsiblity of the corporation to use common sense when thinking about what is actually privilaged information.

Cheers!

Right you are most of the fellas I know who really despise their job do frequent the bar. Your right, people don’t want to hear about other people’s problems unless they’re getting paid for it. I do think that ranting helps some people with their problems. But as I said earlier I do enjoy what I do, I drink for other reasons LOL.

So all the people in the world working to support their families in jobs they don’t like are “dummies”? Give me a break and grow up.

Sorry, they can make your life miserable, withdraw your authority on the company computer/web site, and sue you into silence, in addition to termination. If that does not restrict you, I don’t know what will. It is called proprietary information, and therefore, is not free speech. Try again next week.

Try what again? It is apparent some poeple here have a probelm reading for meaning.Or in seeking to be offended they interpret posts of others any way they want.

Chico [banghead]

You should read all the posts before you reply.Read what I wrote again zugman.Thats not what I said.

Chico

Look, I hate all these restrictions, too, but hadn’t we better admit that railroads are highly vulnerable to low-tech sabotage? I’ll just say “coat hanger” and leave the rest to your imaginations.

Maybe ninety-eight percent of “banned” communications about what’s going on in the corporation is simply for them to keep their good name, but that does leave two percent potentially very harmful.

I don’t think this means we have to censor everything. But some common sense must be applied, and I agree with the others who say that when you go on the 'net, you haven’t any idea whom you’re talking to. Perhaps the best response is “everybody.” They have cell phones in Afghanistan, don’t they? If not, they probably have Internet cafes and if not that, certainly privately-owned computers and satellite dishes.

He must had a really bad lawyer.

Ever seen the CSX-sucks.com website?

Look at the orange and yellow squares.

Yes, Virginia, railroaders do complain. You ahve to realize - yous pend 12 hours in a confined space with someone, you run out of mutual topics of interest real fast! That’s when you start complaining. It is good therapy, as well.

Well I certainly read your posts and I got exactly the same impression. I will go further to suggest to you that you are posting in overly bread generalizations, for example, suggesting that all people who drink hate their jobs.

How about posting again, perhaps this time explaining to us why you feel that way?

Not a chance Harry.First you couldn’t have read very carefully because the little laughnng guy at the end means “joking”.Second, you are asking me to defend words you putin my mouth. That’s a straw dog, Harry, and I don’t do those.Thats what those other guys did,too because they have trouble reading for meaning.i can’t defend or explain what I didn’t say.

Chico

You find humor in this?

Its no wonder you’ve confused the readers of this thread.

No,Harry. Just you.Another straw dog man twisting peoples words to start an argument. Thanks for the holier than thou lecture .

Chico

Well, sorry to dissapoint you son, but you don’t rate an argument.

I’ll just leave it to say your posts on this thread stunk. It appears that others here were of the same opinion.

Have a nice evening.

Its nine oclock on a saturday
The regular crowd shuffles in
Theres an old man sitting next to me
Makin love to his tonic and gin

He says, son, can you play me a memory?
Im not really sure how it goes
But its sad and its sweet and I knew it complete
When I wore a younger mans clothes

La la la, de de da
La la, de de da da da

Chorus:
Sing us a song, youre the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, were all in the mood for a melody
And youve got us feelin alright

Now john at the bar is a friend of mine
He gets me my drinks for free
And hes quick with a joke or to light up your smoke
But theres someplace that hed rather be
He says, bill, I believe this is killing me.
As the smile ran away from his face
Well Im sure that I could be a movie star
If I could get out of this place

Oh, la la la, de de da
La la, de de da da da

Now paul is a real estate novelist
Who never had time for a wife
And hes talkin with davy whos still in the navy
And probably will be for life

And the waitress is practicing politics
As the businessmen slowly get stoned
Yes, theyre sharing a drink they call loneliness
But its better than drinkin alone

Chorus

Its a pretty good crowd for a saturday
And the manager gives me a smile
cause he knows that its me theyve been comin to see
To forget about life for a while
And the piano, it sounds like a carnival
And the microphone smells like a beer
And they sit at the bar and put bread in my jar
And say, man, what are you doin here?

Oh, la la la, de de da
La la, de de da da da

No wonder I can smell Lysol

Troll alert…

BTW, are you allergic to yourself, sir? You seem to think you are funny, but you are not. You are offensive, instead.
