Real window glass in HO scale

Hi all,

Just wanted to share I tried out the .005" Thin Plate Glass from Ngineering today.

This is how visitors could see my interior before:

This is how they can see it now:

A World of difference! Fantastic stuff! A major rebuild is due - all my buildings are getting most of their windows re-done. I also wrote a short story on this on my website.

Cheers,

Looks good. What is your source of the glass? Also how do you cut glass so thin?

Glass is from Ngineering. They have an item called .005 Thin Plate Glass. Cutting it is a hell of a challenge until you get a little used to it :). I used various tools and materials, but settled on a broken Dremel cutting disk. There is a good instruction on the Ngineering website and there is a full story on my website.

Funny you should mention this. Yesterday i was at a clinic about judging models for NMRA Master Modeler designation and this subject came up - - wat to use for real glass. The cheap answer: micorscope slide cover slips. They are about the same thickness as the material mentioned above but probably much cheaper. You can get these from laboratory supply houses. as for cutting, you can use a carbide tipped scribing tool; they sell these at the big box home improvement stores.

I have used window glass from Clover House and their scribe tool. I now use slide glass as someone gave me a box of slides. Enough to last for a long time. I would like the glass to fit “inside” the frame but I can only put the glass “behind” the window frame.

Hi all,

I have an update :). I, too was thinking there was something wrong with the glass sitting on the inside of the frame. It looked ok before, because you could not see it through the blurry plastic, but now with unobstructed view, this did not look good at all.

Above is my solution. Takes time and some effort, but looks greatissimo :). There are more pictures on my website.
