recent arrivals in the office

Williams by Bachmann BL2, bullet-proof as alsways.

MTH Premier P5a box cab. Tons of see-through vents!

Lionel SD70ace - if the GP7 left me cold, I’m puckering up for another smooch over this one!

Well Bob, given the current “What is available from RMT” thread, I didn’t think I’d be seeing any new RMT products on your posting here.

As for me, I reserve my excitement for some of the products that seem to generate less excitement when released. Like with the W/B BL-2, it may not be as exciting as some of the newer more detailed products, but I know I won’t be reading threads in the upcoming months about it now fails to work and needs service.

I’ll get cranked up to see the new Lionel starter steam loco that is now coming with the basic starter sets, or the new Rugged Rails Dash horn-only diesels, more new Williams by Bachmann or the new RMT products like the BANG - whenever/if ever they get released.

I’d also love to see some sort of brief rolling stock reviews: just the basics like how do they look, how’s the paint applied (and accuracy) etc. For example, when you look at the Lionel catalog, the CP Rail box car that comes in the CP rail starter set has rivet detail down the sides. I’ve seen the actual car, and while the paint is very nicely applied, there is no rivet detail - the car is obviously produced from the old 9700 molds. Or on the ones I have actually seen, both the red and black colored CP Rail gondolas with cannisters (the one from the add-on pack and the separate sale version) both had bad paint fuzz on the CP logo. These are all cars I could have considered and had to pass them by.

Bob…thanks for sharing this “heads up” stuff on a regular basis. BTW, folks who tease and tempt others into a transaction where money changes hands are usually arrested by the vice squad. [swg]

Jack

He doesn’t even bring them to York with him so we can play see them in person! He just teases us with little pictures. [:)]

Brian, you hurt me. I think the RMT products I’ve seen are great.

I’ve run RMT products (and reviewed the Beep, Buddy, and caboose) in the May and July 04 issues, May, Sept, Oct, Nov, and December 2006 issues; March, July, Oct, and Dec 2007 issues, and the May 08 issue.

I think Walt have a great chance to nurture and grow and profit from the neglected O-27 segment of the hobby.

I think he’s referring to my thread and the fact that a bunch of RMT products have been announced over the last 1.5 years, but have missed their delivery dates by a wide margin.

Hmmmm, no mention of repaints to that other roadname…[:O]

Somebody mellowing or broadening their horizons ??? [:D]

Alas, none of them are mine to repaint!

Though now that I think of it, a NYC flag on the side of that SD would look pretty sharp!

Love that GM Demonstrator colors. Looking forward to these reviews.

How about Black with a white stalion on it [:D]

Did I read correctly that Lionel is coming out with a new starter engine?

When you test engines for CTT, do you have to send them back?

In the past Bob has stated they have to return these test engines

Bob, DJ Spanky hit the nail on the head! It’s not the RMT products themselves, but the lengthy delays that some of them have had - for whatever reason. It’s entirely possible that the delays are out of Walter’s hands.

My comment was never intented against you or CTT. I am very aware that you have reviewed other RMT products and given them thumbs up. It’s also my understanding that Lionel does not provide products to CTT for review purposes, so that makes that a little harder.

I’m no fool, and one only has to look at the various catalogs to see the direction of the majority of new product introductions. And while the high end products have unquestionably pushed the hobby forward and even enticed some to come back to 3-rail trains, I also know the single unit production runs of these products are fairly low.

The sort of lower end products that everyone knows I prefer, are made in quantities that dwarf most high end products - even though they don’t grab all the attention. Just the fact that more of them get made and more of them get sold tells me these lower end products still have a BIG place in the hobby.

So needless to say, there may not be the “editorial angle” for reviewing some of these products as there is for the brand new higher end ones - but I’ll still hang in there for reviews of those more basic products. Although I will confess, I do read all the product reviews, just to have an idea of what’s going on. So while the new recently reviewed Atlas MP-15 is exceptionally nice, I makes me wish Atlas had put just a little more thought into the pre-design process of the Industrial Rail Atlantic steamer. Or talked to a couple of actual 027 operating guys to find out what it is we’re looking for in a new product.

I don’t think we’re so far off from each other Bob. We both like black diesel locomotives.

Unfortunately, I have to do a little masking and touchup to get the correct NORFOLK SOUTHERN logo in place of the NYC o
