Hi all,
I have the opportunity to accumulate some railroad related books from my future in-laws. I wanted to post the titles here and see if theres any books in particular folks recommend. Let me know your thoughts!

Mike, for myself I’d probably start with Great Railway Journeys and Great American Rail Journeys. I love passenger trains.
I would start with High Iron and Highball, both classics by Lucius Beebe.
The Train Wrecks book is quite an interesting read- I’ve never finished it, but have read some and found it very interesting and entertaining to read.
Being a fan of the B&M myself, that B&M in color book sounds like fun to page through too.

Hi, being an avid reader, I would say first, it depends on what grabs your interest. Some people get bored with History but might be interested in scenic routes. I’ve always started with history. In that way you’ll learn also which railroads were instrumental in development but innovation, as well. Then come into the 20th and now 21st centuries and follow as freight and passenger service evolved. There is lots of good reading out there!
On a somewhat related note, if you are interested in the history of railroad safety generally, I recommend “Death Rode the Rails” by Mark Aldrich. It covers from the beginning of railroads in the US to the modern era. It’s interesting to see how various catastrophes caused railroads to change or caused the government to legislate change.
