Next month (March) I’ll be driving through Chattanooga, TN and Atlanta, GA on a mini-vacation. Any recommended hobby shops to visit for HO items in either of those areas? Model Railroader lists the following:
Chattanooga Depot (website not working)
Near Atlanta: Riverdale Station, Trainmaster Models in Buford, and Legacy Station Trainworks in Lawrenceville.
I can highly recommend Trainmaster in Buford, GA. Nothing but train stuff in N, HO, O, G, and even Thomas The Tank Engine. They have a large selection of new stuff and used as well.
Legacy Station, in Lawrenceville, has little in HO. Haven’t been to Riverdale Station in years as it’s on the South side of Atlanta and I rarely go there.
I went to the Chattanooga Choo Choo hotel a few years back (Holiday Inn), it was very tired and had a dusty falling apart model railroad display. It was some time back, so perhaps things are better now, or maybe things have fallen further into disrepair. I did find one hobby shop on the north side of the town behind Lookout mountain. It was not worth going out of the way to visit, but again that is fairly ancient information, things may have changed?
The Chattanooga Depot is up on Ringgold rd which is a major highway, 41 I think, its in a small shopping strip. Last time I was there it was not bad for finding a few older things I had not seen in a while. I know he has been there at least 23 years.
In Atlanta, Riverdale Station was very impressive last time I was there. Also Legacy Station was worth a visit as well. Riverdale used to be big enough to do there own limited run stuff.
Legacy had a lot of O.
Don’t miss the Coca Cola museum. Also the Choo Choo used to have a FM H 16 44 that was worth seeing.
KENNESAW TRAINS INC. in Kennesaw, GA is NO MORE. This shop closed at end of 2010. HOBBYTOWN USA near TOWN CENTER MALL in Kennesaw, GA has a very good selection of HO trains. I have bought many HO model trains and accessories from there. David Briel
I really liked Trainmasters when I was down last time. They had a ton of great used items in HO scale. I spent a couple hours in there just browsing through the items. They did seem to be a little “mistrusting” of their non-regular customers…there are anti-shoplifting signs everywhere! The shop is also directly across the street from the state railroad museum an an NS mainline.
Trainmasters i no longer across from the RR museum in Duluth, GA. They are now up in Buford on E. Main St. which also runs along the NS mainline. They have a new building all by itself. They are not open Monday and open at 11AM the other 6 days.
