There was a post here a few months ago about worrying about not being the mood as losing interest in MRRing. I have to say I too was like that for the last couple months. I was working a lot of OT and weekends, then I crewed on an offshore sailboat delivery about a 1000 miles up the east coast, followed by more weekend/ OT work. I think I did not even look at my layout for over a month. Then a couple weeks ago, I was back in the zone. I put in a couple sidings, built some grain silos and a building to go with the grain facility, spent a good couple hours one night last week running my Genset around doing pickups and drop offs at all my industries, redid my sad looking river and turned it into a dried up river bed and replaced some of my Atlas hand thrown switches with Caboose Industries ground throws. And this weekend I am going to see if I can round up an overpass and/or some background buildings. I feel the time away gave me a chance to see my layout with new eyes. So I say to anyone who feels like the are loosing interest… step away and give it some time, you will come more motivated than ever! [Y]
The time of year has an effect on us. That is the summer/warmer months aren’t normally busy RRing around here. Usually starting about Oct thru March or so.

My modelling starts with the end of deer season and ends when the grass starts to grow. I’m the king of OT and when I’m not working OT I’m working in the garage restoring old muscle cars. I don’t even watch much TV, no time. For me I get back in the mood around this time when the show season starts up. Actually my first show of the 12/13 season as I call it is this weekend in Picton Ontario. Can’t wait…
Any time I feel like that I take a break and just walk away for a while. It could be days or weeks. A couple of times it was for a year or more. During that time the layout usually becomes the catch-all for anything and everything. I usually pick up where I left off, other times I tear it all down and start again. I don’t think I’ll be doing that anymore. My health problems pretty much tell me this will be the last layout I build. So I guess I better enjoy it.
Hi!
Yup, the recent “cool front” has warmed up my MR juices for sure! Of course “cool front” down here in south Texas means hight “only” about 90, and trust me that is just fine. Anyway, even though my layout is in a spare upstairs bedroom, getting on top of the layout to scenic can wear this ol boy out pretty quickly.
I’m doing the outside (furthest reach) perimeter first, so once that’s done the rest will be significantly easier.
By the way, it never ceases to amaze me what a sprinkling of various groundcovers and shrubs and trees can do to a layout…
ENJOY !!!
Yah - I only get to work on my layout 35 hours a week in the Summer as I have to waste good time mowing the yard!
