Does anyone agree it might be time for TRAINS to revisit some of the Regionals in the nation such as they did mostly in the late 1980’s/early 1990’s in their splendid “Regionals in Review” series?
Much as changed since then as some have disappeared (Washington Central acquired by BNSF, MidSouth and Gateway Western acquired by KCS), I & M Rail Link (the last of the “Regionals” series in 1997) is now Iowa, Chicago & Eastern.
For many, business has been lost and gained, motive power has changed and with megamergers reducing the Class 1’s, some of these Regional’s have lost their rate-making advantages.
Any thoughts?
