Rehab My Railroad: Episode 1

Thank you ,this is a great video guys. I like it when you have Davis Popp working on a great railroad too.

Great kickoff to this new series. Basements are awesome venues for railroads. The PPE on the field trip was a good touch. Always be careful at grade crossings. Stop, Look, Listen. Even better, Drew left his Bronco hat at home, ha. If you can, try to make comments on suggested flooring in the railroad area. Drew makes a great job foreman.

Regarding the ceiling, why not just mount drywall to the joists in the areas where there isn’t any duct work? It might not be as pretty as a drop ceiling, but it would be a step up from what is there now.

Great series start. Just one correction: it’s Canadian Pacific Railway nor railways

Finding a broken actuator on one of the gates would not make me want to trust the other gate. For those of us not producing a MRVP episode I believe contacting the manufacturer for a replacement would be what you would want to do. David made an excellent call reworking the broken gate, I do think I would have reworked the other gate as well so that Chuck isn’t faced with possibly having to do that down the road should it fail as well. I think the only time you notice that there isn’t a ceiling is during the filming, I wouldn’t think it’s too noticeable during an operating session. Great start to a great series, I’ll be following along for sure!

Hello! I think this will be a great series and I am looking forward to hopefully many more videos! Everyone involved with Video Plus does an excellent job!

Creature comfort to the floor…inexpensive foam mats available at sears or Kmart on the east coast. They come in a variety of colors if you have colors representing town locations and keeps the feet from getting tired especially standing for long periods of time on cement floors.

Great looking series, looking forward to more!

Don’t know why the hate for the ceiling. Mine is the same way. Love this show. The idea of it, the way its presented, everything is awesome.

Great start to a new series! I liked the overhead time lapse during the credits at the end.

Enjoyed watching this - I have a set of crossing gates I need to install so David’s tips were particularly helpful. Looking forward to more episodes.

Drew, The mug arrived today, thank you for the great gift. I’ll be using it to enjoy my favorite beverage while viewing the series. Great couple of projects to start the series with, but I must say shame, shame shame on Cody. Working on scenery without protecting the trackwork with paper towels or masking tape in case of a accidental spill. Guys, keep up the great work and I’m looking forward to future episodes of Rehab my Railroad.

P.S. Loved the Jim Hediger talking icon, now back to work.

Great start to the series…even with the misspelling of “separately” as “seperately” in the materials text while Davis was talking about the grade crossing kit.

To Scott Catalano: Rubber floor mats were added after the filming of the first several episodes. Its a lot easier on the legs and feet. Good suggestion for all modelers.
Chuck Sable

It’s great to see the Model Railroader team working together in such a congenial working atmosphere. It’s obvious that you all have a great professional and personnel relationship. I have been a Model Railroader subscriber for over 45 years, which like this video, provides outstanding modeling tips, but seeing the team working together really enhances the experience.

Great idea and great show fellas. The one thing I saw during this segment is the importance of not making your self layout too wide as evidenced by Cody just extending to a comfortable limit to “rehab” the scenery. Mr. Sable managed to keep his shelf just wide enough for good scenery and track without going too wide. Good job.

Great addition to your line-up of video series. You provide information and humor.Keep you the good work. Will you only be doing layouts in the Milwaukee area or will you ever take it on the road and visit other parts of the country?

Keep up the good work!

I love the first installment of Rehab My Railroad. I have just started building my first railroad at the ripe young age of 57 and I love the video series and all the “how to” knowledge you gain from it. I was thinking of using a Velcro type fastener on the background of my layout to hold some things without having to drill into the wall since it is a spared bedroom of my condo. Cody’s showing his segment about attaching the pads to the top of the hills was dead on and I will be using that idea. Keep up the great work and keep the ideas coming. By the way, to Michael who wrote in below about David’s hat, all I can say is “Go Broncos!”

As far as the ceiling goes, why not just blend in color from the top of the background to a flat black color also paint all the duct work, and everything else flat black. Install small black track lighting strips up inside with light dimmers on the track lighting. By doing this you will be able to have a variation of lighting to represent from early morning ,mid day, and night time sessions. Then all the ceiling stuff disappears,. Everything is an illusion to some extant. Run several strips and place and aim them at strategic areas on the layout to highlight points of interest. Now you have eliminated the eyesore of the low ceilings, and retained the ability to get at everything.
