Relatives

In contradiction to my Pet Raillroaders, Id like to hear about your relatives (including pets) that absolutly hate trains, our your trains.

My aunt Sherald (Sherry) who is my dad’s sister and is 52. She says they’re real boring and her granddaughter says the same thing who is only 10. My cousin on my moms side, David, threw one of my locos, an FURX SD40-2, and i got real pissed off and beat him up (well tried to at least). And yes, he hates trains.

Dont have any human relatives that hate them but we had a cat knock my MTH Rock Island A-A set off the table.

Are you sure the Cat just didn’t like MTH? [:D]

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha! Good one SteamerFan! Nice to see someone agrees with me as far as MTH goes. My cat love toy trains, as long as it’s postwar Lionel.

Three sentences heard in my home some time ago:

“Awwww… very wuddy cuttie choo choo train!..”
Followed soon after by:
“Arent you a little old to be playing with these toy trains?”
Eventually the great discovery…
“OMG! 450 dollars !!! with COMPUTERS and SOUND!!??; and HOW MUCH ARE THESE CUTE LITTLE CARS?”

It happened only once in my home. Most of my relatives are into the hobby in one form or another so they have some fun as well.

My Ex thought trains where dumb, my Mom thinks their a waist of money.
I’ll TELL you what’s a waist of money! A woman spending $800 on a sewing machine that she NEVER used once![:(!][V] Then you ask them “can you fix this hole in my jeans?”
NO! Denim will ruin the needle! If I’m going to spend that much on a sewing machine, I better be able to sew up a circus tent with it.
At least I actively enjoy my trains on a daily basis.[soapbox]

My three kitties are neutral on the subject, athough I do think that Manet (the 18 lb. sweetie) gets a little upset that I spend so much time in the basement. When I come up the stairs and open the door, he will look at me with that same look my late wife used to have when I was late getting home from anything. Difference is that he wants to picked up and cuddled whereas the wife would just turn and say, “How good is your memory?”

I have a sister who is an artist (retired Art teacher) who used to take great pride in telling me (the musician) that I was NOT an Artist! And that it was fine for me to play with “toy trains” if I had to. After seeing the layout, she now comes over to my house with the camera to do photo sessions on the layout, and tells me that I “do have a good eye”. (Frankly my photos are better than hers … LOL.)

My dog never goes in the basement so I don’t have any pet problems. My father in law on the other hand is a complete idiot when it comes to my trains. He thinks they are toys like he had when he was a kid. We have rules around my house when “they” come over, you don’t touch my trains, you don’t lean on my Trans Am, you don’t even look at my Harley and if you want beer then bring your own. Other then that we get along fine.

Sounds like a tiny bit of sibling rivalry to me…Has she sold any photos to MR yet??

Sibling Rivalry… Yep. She is a middle child. No but she has some absolutely fantastic photos she has taken around the world. She has thought about getting some published but has not due to the concerns of the need for written permission to show a person in a “for profit” situation. The same reason certain “reality” type cop shows have the faces of some people fuzzed out. Very skilled and creative artist, but sometimes a pain where family is concerned.

No relatives, definitley no cats, life is good.

Gotta set the ground rules[;)] nuthin worse than rellies com’in over with no beer and then tuck in to yours…

Mike…

All these problems are relative…

Except the ones that are petty…

[ >^…^< ] Bubba loves my trains except those that have the Chessie kitten on them.[(-D][(-D]

Unless they ask , I don’t show them anymore. rambo1…

No one really hates my trains, I’m sure almost all of them don’t understand. First and foremost my father. I have spent most of my life involved in one hobby or another…he never had things like this growing up so, he is always at a loss for words???

Hello all,

My wife ,HATES TRAINS, I know I asked her this mourning. My son won’t even look at them. My JRT “Rowdy” try’s to eat them,my cat doesn’t get of the couch,so can’t speak for him.

I am lucky. My wife supports me and gave me her music room for the trains. My kids make models for me and buy me good stuff. My Grandson comes over and builds a mountain and my Granddaughter likes making tree.
