I’m remarking a Conrail fleet to Norfolk Southern patch markings. Question is this I bought pack of Microscale decals 87-1182 to do this project. in this pack theirs a couple of decals with NS nose(Horse with Stripes) which if any ex-conrails units had the NS nose art put on?
Why would they? Most patch jobs really were just that, a patch job. The railroad isn’t going to waste paint on something they’re going to paint over.
The purpose of the patch job is not to be creative, it is so that “new” locomotives have the proper Reporting marks and road numbers. This is the minimum required to get the locomotive back on the road.
As funds become availalble, they’ll likely all get black paint slapped over the blue. Very rarely do you see new logos slapped on over an old railroad’s paint scheme. Its happened (former DRG&W F-units had Penn Central logos on them for a while), but usually they just get a renumber and new reporting marks so that the unit can be identified properly.
