I have some of these which I would like to make into non-dynamic brake models. I believe trying to make cuts from the top of the shell will only invite damage to the sides. Any ideas besides cutting out a chunk that includes all the cast-on details (a la Athearn) and then fashion a piece to glue in place without the DB features?
Thx-
Mike
I did one a while back. I used the Athearn non DB hatch. It was easier than it looked. Razor saw for the 2 vertical cuts and then used a Dremel cutting wheel inside the shell for the 2 horizontal cuts. That prevented damage to the sides. I under cut and then used a file to finish it up. The Athearn hatch was little long so that also was trimmed but it turned our nice. Take your time and it will work out.

Here you go. Besides the non-dynamic hatch, I also added the Cannon and company angle filter box, radiator and intake grills and Details West winterization hatch.
Your welcome, let us know how it turns out
