I have a small selection of trains that I would like to put my own railroad’s name on. I found the letter in the December issue of GR but i would like to know if anyone else has any ideas that use ingredients that may be found in a common store or better yet around the house.
Depending on the type of lettering (heat stamped, painted, decals) you can use very fine Tamya Waterpaper (1200 grit) together with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol), you can also try the rubbing alcohol with a Q-tip.
I’ve removed lettering from LGB cars using Nevr-Dull from Eagle Industries. This is a polishing compound available at automotive supply stores.

I’ve used laquar thinner for years to remove the letter on many makes of cars. Put some on a rag and rub off. Don’t dip the car.
How would one remove Bachmann lettering. I have wanted a “bobber” caboose for my Indy, but they don’t come undeocrated. Any takers?
How much paint will it take off the cars using these methods? I model in "O"scale and am having a similar problem.[:)]

I use a product called “ELO” (Easy Lift Off) made by Polly S, you can find it at most hobby shops. Works pretty good. You will need to try it and see how it works on your model, as the results vary. Using a Q tip, on some LGB locos and cars, I was able to remove the lettering and nothing else was required, looked great. On others, I had to repaint after removing the letters.
