Removing Paint

I recently found an old GP38-2 in the basement. It is a Bachmann model from about 97’ lol. I am planning on taking of the paint, putting in a new motor, kadees, etc etc. I was wondering what I should use to take off the paint. Also what I should use to paint it… BESIDES airbrushing.

Anyways, also, are Athearn BB locomotives easy to put together and do they come with a motor?

8 views in 40 minutes is no big deal. It mean 8 people looked at it and didn’t have any information to give you. At least give a few hours or even until tomorrow this late at night. You should also post in standard black type-that orange is hard to read.

Yes, Athearn BB engines are easy to put together and come with a motor. You can usually strip paint with rubbing alcohol. What have you tried so far? You may not have to strip the entire locomotive of paint, just any of the raised lettering. When you say you want to paint it without an airbrush, exactly how do you intend to paint it? What road do you intend to paint it for?

One advice, dont use brake fluid on that old Bachman. I had two older GP30, and tried stripping them using brakefluid, and the plastic got so britle that it broke in small parts when I tried to brush the paint off. Brake fluid workes fine on Athearn and other engines I have stripped.

I’ve used Pine Sol to remove paint. It USUALLY works very well.

I’ve had good luck with the pine sol and some minor scrubbing with an old toothbrush. All of mine were Athearns though.
