I’m not prepared to say that it’s true for all scale steamers, but I have yet to see a sheet in any of mine, from four different suppliers/importers/brands, that cautions the user to use counter-clockwise motion to back out the bolt to, say, swap out a traction tire, or to switch to included metal tired drivers in favour of the traction tired drivers. I think you’ll find it’s a standard thread.
There are hex head driver screw drivers. That are made for these. You will have to measure the head of the screw and get the correct size. But I bet they are metric.
You never know for sure, so measure them to make sure.
If real tight, a drop of very light weight oil will help. A little trick for you- when you try to take them out and you fell a lot of resistance, give them a slight turn to tighten-this some times will break them loose.
