Drilling holes into my Life Like P2K SD50 knocked off both cab side windows. Unlike other P2K models, the shell came attached to the body and despite the diagram, I cannot seem to get it off. Am I stuck with having “open” windows or is there a trick to removing the cab?
If not, I believe that the side windows on the old EMDs opened inward so open windowframes might not totally be unrealistic.
The shell is held on by the coupler pockets and 2 small phillips screws. The screws are not easily seen, they are hidden by the trucks.
I just finished putting a decoder in my last SD50. It was well over a year when I did the other 2, so I had forgot how to remove the shell. Looking at the instructions supplied told to remove the fuel tank and the screws are there. This was not the case on my three units, but possibly may be true for yours.
If you need to remove the fuel tank, be very careful how and where you pry. I had snapped the salem drier and bell off from the walkways.
As for the cab side windows, they slide apart like a sliding rear window on a PU truck. I have modeled open and 1/2 open windows.
How did you knock the window out? Were you drilling for wind deflectors?
Thanks for the advice–I was drilling holes for the sunshades and rear view mirrors and pop! Both came off. They are not glued on that well. It has given me pause to drill any more holes for the mirrors (wind deflectors?) on any of my other P2K units!
