Repainting an IHC GG1

I have a co-worker who has a IHC GG1 in Tuscan red but really wants a Brunswick green one. When he bought it they only had Tuscan red. Anyway, I told him if he REALLY wanted a Brunswick green one I could refinish it for him and he sounded interested in getting that done.

My question is this, Dose anyone no how easy, or difficult, it is to get the pantographs off the body shell? Are they screwed on or held on some other way?

TIA John P.

The pantographs are held on by a single screw through the top, and held centered by four plastic pins (which are a slip-fit in the pantographs). One of the easiest details in the world to remove.

You also need to pop out the windows and headlights. I use the end of a paintbrush for that and take off the horns. Microcale makes a good decal set in either five or single stripe. Use a number above 4857 as 4801-4857 did not have the drop coupler housing and the face of the pilot is straight and easily modified. The stripes will have been silk screened and are thick. It is eaier to sand them and the numbers off with fine sandpqper then to strip them. Painting over the existing paint has not caused problems for me. The Proto PRR green is blacker than the green most manufactuters have used. It iis the closest to the PRR DGLE. Don’t forget the single gold stripe from the point of the five stripes along the bottom of the carbody.

I had it backwards, the loco is green and he wants it Tuscan red [:$] I looked at the Microscale site and it isn’t real clear which set to use. He wants the 5 stripe scheme but doesn’t care about the era as much. So, I’m thinking either set 87-39 or 87-677, but can someone confirm.
