What type cement does one use to repair Lionel plastic parts. I have a 6819 flat car w/ type III helio that has a broken landing skid. I’ve used fill a gap super glue and regular plastic model cement to no avail. Help!
Hey boss…have you tried any of the liquid cements for plastic modelling, like Testors? They come in bottles with a brush applicator and can be purchased at any hobby store. The Testors works by actually melting the plastic together versus the bonding approach of other plastic cements and the “SuperGlues.” On plastics, I’ve found nothing stronger and have been using the stuff for over 40 years.
Also, if you do a search on this Forum you will find threads with a lot of info re plastic repairs. Here are two threads that might help:

Thanks Rock… I’ll give it a shot and will check out the threads.
Jack,
That is good info to know. Also what might be good for Lionel’s 022 post war switches that have a material called Bakelight?

I think some form of epoxy is the best you can do for bakelite
I’ve had decent luck using super glue on lionel cars but things made of shiny plastic seems too slippery for anything to stick to it. I can’t find anything that holds very long.
