Replacement Brushes For Small Electric Locomotive Motors

I would like to replace the carbon brushes in my father’s Fleischmann locomotive. They look like very thick pencil leads and are about 1/4 inch long. Does anyone know of vendors for this type of spare part? I have not had any luck contacting the manufacturer. Thanks for your help!

I think that your best bet would be to remotor the loco. It’d be a lot easier replacing the entire motor assembly than trying to fit a pair of brushes into the motor… not to mention the fact that you most likely cannot obtain replacement brushes for motors as small as model train ones…

Though I could be way off base…

Hardware stores (even Walmart) often carry replacement brushes of various sizes for small motors. Look in where the Dremel tools are. We have a Sears Repair center here that carries bunches of things like that. If none of those pan-out try some of the larger hobby stores. Caboose Hobbies in Denver has a huge repair department.

From the description that almost sounds like the brushes used in the motors of Atals HO scale RS3 locomotives with the Kato drive.

Thanks - but I’ll keep looking for brushes. Remotoring is way out of my skill set.
