Can anyone tell me what the evxx reporting marks stands for. It was on two 89’ flatcars with two large containers on each car and each container was covered with a tarp. If anyone knows what this mark means and what the cars hual, i would like to know. Thanks
I haven’t heard of, seen, or been able to document, reporting marks EVXX.
I suspect that you may have seen some of the flat cars lettered ECXX, operated by ECDC Environmental (previously the East Carbon Development Company).
It’s been a while since I’ve seen one of these cars, but I believe those tarp-covered containers carry some sort of low-level radioactive waste–either contaminated soil (“dirty dirt”) or other contaminated substances.
Most of the time the dirt is carried in gondolas (also covered by tarps); I don’t know what the advantage of containers would be, except for the possibility of loading them at a site not served by a railroad.
