Resetting Proto to Factory settings?

Does anyone know how to reset Proto 1 soundboards back to factory settings with the Z 1000. The manual says setting 18 but doesn’t tell you how to reset it. Any help would be great.

Pretty clear in the manuals I have.

ProtoSounds® is equipped with a RESET feature (Feature 18) that resets all programmable options back to their original factory settings. This is a useful feature if you find your engine not operating the way you think it should and don’t want to take the time to check each RESET feature one at a time. To reset all the RESET features back to their original factory settings, enter RESET and go to Feature 18.

(See the section entitled Using RESET To Program ProtoSounds® on page 18).

Once in Feature 18, press the transformer whistle button and wait for ProtoSounds® to sound a garbled bell sound, then interrupt the transformer throttle to enter the forward phase.

What the manual doesn’t tell you is how to get it into feature 18, that is the information I am digging for. I may just be lame but I have read the manual cover to cover and I’m still clueless.

Leave the locomotive off for at least 10 seconds.

Crank the power up past 12 volts on the transformer, you’ll hear two dings of the bell.

You can then start the sequence of stepping through the options by turning the power to zero volts and right back up again. You’ll here the dings and clanks counting out the current option setting. Each clank is 5, each ding is 1.

When you get to three clanks and three dings, that’s option 18, the reset option. Hit the whistle control and you’ll hear the garbled bell that signals the reset was done.

BINGO! You got it. Three clanks and three bells and it’s time to hit the whistle switch.

You can do the power cycles pretty quickly, no need to wait for the sound feedback. I normally do about 15 of them in quick succession, then stop and listen to see where I am in the count.
