This could fall under Electronics, but it’s more of a poll question than one, so it’s here. I’m looking to be doing a boatload of wheelset changes, and was wondering what your guys’ preferences to a mix of resistored wheels to mark the end of the train in signaling was. Ideally, I’d like to build a FRED system, but since I;m not running an era requiring freqent cabeece and that’s still a little ways off yet, I was considering adding resistors while I was at the wheels. For those of you who do this, what’s your mix of restored to not?
Hmmmmmm…looks as if the cat has been collecting tongues
again eh?

OK…are you asking about adding resistors to the wheelsets of your equipment so they can be used in a signalling / detection system, or are you talking about adding an FRED to the rear of one or more of your cars??
If the former, generally most guys add a resistor-equipped wheelset (either ‘do it yourself’ or purchased) to each car, not just to one car like a caboose. This is to ensure proper detection of the train.
I use one resistor wheel-set per car, on all cars.
I build my own. I use 10K 1/8 watt resistors with the wire leads. I super glue them to the axles in the center, then use ‘Wire Glue’ from All Electronics to make the electrical connection from the resistor leads to the wheels.
