Restoring the "Stubby" switcher by Lindsay

Just finished getting this one restored! The project this time around was Lindsay’s “Stubby” diesel yard switcher, which is a tiny all-metal model from the early 50’s powered by their famous 7-pole motor. Aside from waiting for paint to dry, it only took me a few hours to get this running and looking like a new engine!

That little switcher is, if you ask me, distinctly similar to Lionel’s postwar era Vulcan switchers: LIONEL TRAINS 51 NAVY YARD UNIT.
I think that this is a common prototype: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/navy-yard-ny-15-vulcan-iron-works-30-ton-diesel-locomotive--386746686736323916/.
Anyway, good job!

Always love seeing your work, Darth. Great job on this one, as ever! Kudos to Lindsay for picking a switcher design that strongly resembles a prototype.

Another fun Darth video. I never knew these existed. I have some of those Lindsay 7 pole motors, and they are impressively smooth and powerful. Thanks for sharing. Dan

Thanks! They likely did base it on the same prototype as Lionel.

Thanks for sharing. The Lindsay engineers/techs were obviously proud folks with very high standards…
