Riser fill in material

Hello! I’d like a few suggestions…I’ve used the Woodlandscenics risers and was wondering what people use to fill in the cut-a-way part?

Thanks! Shawn

well there is no reason to fill the spaces in to lay the track, just glue your roadbed to the foam. If you are worried about how it looks, you can cover it up with whatever you want when you do your scenery.

The cut out parts allow it to bend for curves, so if you do fill in the spaces dont do it if you havent already glued down the risers.

Hi Shawn,

I agree, you don’t need to fill in the spaces. On my layout I have actually used the risers UNDER plywood as well as under foam roadbed. If you really really want to fill in the interstices, structolite (gypsolite) works fine. Spread it on after gluing down the risers. You won’t be able to adjust them later.

Well, I will add my two cent to this , After you lay out the risers how you want ; Wad some paper up around the area if you are going to have hill’s ,mountains or just any contour to your landscape and cover it with plaster cloth. Layin the cloth over the risers and making sure it is smooth will cover the gaps in the risers.

Using my layout for example : i layed out the risers how i wanted them ; placing them in the way that i could put a bridge over a river .Then i wadded up small pieces of paper to make little hills, embankments, etc. covered it all it plaster clothe, the hills ,then moved to the risers covering them as i went smoothing the tops ( so i dont have bumps where the track lays) after i got a ways i used the left over plaster in the bottom of the bowl to fill in any little gaps the were missed. One suggestion if you choose this route overlap the cloth.

Hope this helps some?

Thanks

I cover the risers with plaster cloth before putting down the cork or foam roadbed.

I also cover the risers with plaster cloth prior to installing the road bed.

Ditto. Works real nice.
