Rivarossi HO NYC Hudson?

How is the newest release (2007) of the Rivarossi HO NYC Hudson (non-streamlined)? I know it has the odd couplers, but how do I go about replacing them. Also, how easy is it to add a decoder? 8 pin plug? 9 pin plug? Also, how easy is it to add sound? Lastly, how is the overall running and detail? Thanks so much, and sorry for asking so many questions.

The current version of the Hudson has knuckle couplers (kadee clones) and has a 8 pin DCC socket. I assume that if the 2007 version had the old Rivarossi couplers then there is a newer, more current version now.

The only two engines being imported by Rivarossi is the Hudson and Big Boy. Check e-bay for these and I have seen the engines on a couple of on line retailers as well.

Why not a Broadway version? I have picked up a couple off of Ebay for $100 each and could have had more of them if I had wanted.

You got one heck of a deal. A check of E-Bay completed listing shows that must have been quite a while ago. Lucky you.

I have an older one and it has the old hook and horn coupler

If it has the (NEM?) European couplers, Kadee does make replacements for them. I bought some for my Trix NYC caboose.

I picked up my last BLI NYC 4-6-4 for a $100 about a year ago but have seen some listed at or close to that since then.

You might also consider one of the Franklin Mint NYC 4-6-4, they are really nice looking locos but, some run extremely well and some don’t, sort of a crap shoot there. They are cast metal with nice detailing on them though and can sometimes be had pretty cheap. The last “spare” one I had I sold on Ebay for $75 so they don’t bring a lot of $$$ although some nitwits seem to think they can “ask” big money for them, but they don’t bring it. I’d say if you can find a nice one for a $100 or less you’d have a pretty good buy and a nice locomotive to boot. They’ll pull the house down because of they’re weight.
