Rivarossi Y6-b mallet rebuild complete PIC

Just finished this rebuild, regeared, remotored, NWSL stuff ,and repainted.

Yeah , I know,NP didn’t have one of these, thats the way the owner wanted it.

Chea thats sweet. And what does the finished model weigh in at?

I didn’t weigh it, maybe tomorrow at the club, but I put a ton of weight in the tender to get good electrical contact. prolly about 8-10 oz. Still has the pizza cutter flanges so a little bumpy on the turnouts and stray bits of ballast. This locys probably ,oh ,thirty years old.

Nice job! [:)][tup] It looks like you replaced the tender wheels, but I see you decided not to turn down the flanges. That’s a finicky job. There are probably some NWSL wheelsets that would fit the lead & trailing trucks, too.

Were the original universal shafts long enough? How’s it run?

Steam freak. I had to cut back the motor shafts and the worm gear shafts to accomodate the couplings from NWSL. It runs very nicely except for those dang pizza cutter flanges. I recommended not putting sound in it for that reason. Even with the new can motor it really clatters down the track. I’ve been working on it so much lately that I don’t think I’m up to putting a new set of drivers under it. At this point I’d rather scratch build a new one. I kinda remember a thread here on how to reduce the flanges by turning the mechanism with its own motor. That method would probably wear out the new motor in the time it took to wear down 16 drivers.I do have access to a mini lathe,Buuut. The tender wheels. Yeah, we put a set of metal wheels under it to improve electrical pickup. Also installed some axle sliders for tha purpose.

Looks exceptionally nice. Looks good as an NP engine.
