Rivarossi's current product line

Are the items listed under Hornby’s version of Rivarossi still being made with the original style tooling? I know they have updated drives, sounds, & the proper wheel flanges now, but I want to know if the rest of the body parts are the older designs.

The US portion of Hornby/Rivarossi is very small if you compare it to the European parent.

Everything is new I would assume.

I saw that. The video of the new Big Boy sure looks like the old, original tooliing, except for the driveline & wheels.

Except for the Heislers and Allegheny (and FEF-3, if they rerelease that), all of Rivarossi’s US trains use the old tooling. The Big Boy shell is the same one that’s been in use since the 60’s. It still looks pretty good for its age, though.

I agree, it looks great. I just can’t see the crazy price they get. I can darken all the bright work on my old ones & live with the high flanges when I’m buying them for less than a hundred dollars & a new one retails at what? $400 to $500? I know they have sound but it’s not worth it to me. No way I’m paying that much when from a distance you can hardly tell the difference. I bought 3 different big steamers ofnthe old design for what I’d pay for one new one & like you say, it’s 40 year old tooling anyway!

There is a review of the Hornby/Rivarossi 2009 model in Model Railoaders review section.

I wish they would re-release their version of the Cab Forward. These are getting very expensive.

The re-releases of the Heislers just came out and I looked them over at my LHS and they looked and ran real good. The sound was pretty good too. I have been impressed with the new releases- they have been cleaned up and run well. Looks like they will be bringing our some new roadnames on the 60 ft heavyweight passenger cars and they appear to have found the tooling for the RPO and combine so now I can put together a 5 car train; two coaches, baggage, RPO and combine.I hope they keep expanding the line.

I wonder if they’ll update the U25C…
