roadnames and abbr. for the railroads in the
USA.Im new at this and all the advertised

There is a large list of reporting marks at www.spikesys.com/Trains/rep_mrks.html
www.nrhs.com has a list–actually two lists.
One sorted by reporting marks in alphabetical order.
The other sorted by the alphabetical listing of the owners of these marks.

If you mean reporting marks, (GACX, GATX, TILX and such) your half way there already. Click on trains magazine at the top of this forum, then look to the list on the left, click on the ABCs of railroading. On the first page second story, every current reporting mark still used is listed. If you print it out, have plenty of paper on hand, its 57 pages long. It starts at AA for Ann Arbor Railroad, ends at ZTTX for the TTX corp.

The list of reporting marks and owners is 11 pages of two cloumns of small type. The book gives physical dimensions of every car plus car service rules and all kinds of technical stuff about how to register cars and get marks. It is at least 1000 pages and I suspect costs serious money.
If you have a friendly short line around they may be willing to show it to you.

Ha Ha Ha…In all seriousness, have your seen anything from gdc in a while? I havent, and am wondering whats happened. They guy is a real pro, and writes in a well rounded, easy to understand manner. It would be a shame if something happened to him. If you, or anyone out there knows his e-mail, tell him to get back on board.
