I found a free sample download for a book by Robert Anderson titled Model Train Help. Now I am getting e-mail offers from this guy everyday, today it was an offer to join his online club for 30.00 a month. My question is this guy any good and is it worth the money or is this information available for free.
I know that we all have to make money somehow, but this guy is starting to remind me of Billy Mays yelling at me to buy Oxy clean. There was one book he was offering that caught my attention “Confessions of a mobile layout builder” , has anyone here read this and is it any good?
$30 a month is high. Even those sites that charge that I’m aware of only charge about that much in a year or less than that if they are not free. I once researched it to see if a blogger could make money in this hobby like some other ones and it doesn’t appear so even if you get paid advertisements.
There’s a lot of information available out there for free or as an adjunct to a magazine subscription like this one.
I have modeled in HO for over 50 years and also in 1:20.3 for 7 years and concerning Robert Anderson I would say: WHO? Admittedly, that may reveal more about my parochialism than about his accomplishments, but there is still not the name recogition in the hobby of, say, John Armstrong.
Let’s see, for $30 per month you can get MR, RMC, NG & SLGazette (which is bi-monthly) and likely Trains magazine, too. That must be one heck of an “on-line” club to offer benefits beyond what would be gained from those publications!
I seem to recall that this question came up a couple of months ago, and the general opinion then was that his book had nothing in it that couldn’t be gleaned from the Internet for free if you know how to use Google or other search engine.
