Rochelle Rochelle: A great day in the life of a rail fan place.

October 22 2005 was a great day. We saw thirty trains total. Here is a teaser of it. THIS ALBUM IS NOT FULL. THIS IS JUST A TEASER.

WOW 30 trains is alot to see in one day but I’d think 40 or even 50 would be better and it would be even greater if you or me got to see a few amtrak trains [:D][:D][(-D][(-D]

Rochelle is a great place. Did you get anything in the gift shop? I once picked up a Kato bluebonnet SD40-2 for $50 there!

If you think Rochelle is OK you ought to also try Colton CA where the action is viturally non stop between BNSF & UPRR/Atrak/Metra on the BNSF Cajon pass line. UPRR/Atrak on the Sunset route, BNSF trains coming & going from the Colton yard onto the Cajon pass line & UPRR trains coming & going /on off the Sunset route onto the BNSF Cajon pass line. [:o)][:o)]

trains.com should put a webcam there, too! And a picnic shelter, like at Rochelle. Can’t have too many railfan parks!
Matthew

First the shelter, then the webacam. A lot of small towns still don’t cotton to the idea that they should try to ATTRACT more railrans, but places like Rochelle and the Folkeston Funnel make the prospect more and more attractive. Still, in these bureaucratic days a shelter would need the approval of the local tourist commission, town gov’t, and possibly the dominant service clubs, too. And in many cases the RR’s.

Probably the nicest thing people who have been both places would be to write a thoughtful letter to the local California town gov’t (or Parks Dept. and copy the Chamber of Commerce), pointing out how useful and lucrative the shelter has been for Rochelle. Enclose the pamphlet or pictures.

Metra? Is that the METRA Chicago Area, or something different?

I would think folkston would be better(just my opinon)I think seeing a tropicana train going by the web cam would be awsome[8D].

Some other choices for a web cam spot would be Marion,OH(on top of AC tower),Flostoria,OH,Austell,GA,Galesburg,IL,

I’m going to agree with the majority here, you can never have to many railfan parks. As far as I am concerned there aren’t enough!!

Glen Ellyn, I really do like that pic of the CNW Dash-9 # 8701, that’s a memory worth keeping since UP is planing on patching or repainting the rest of the CNW units.

wah?

thanks

As usual he got it wrong. It’s Metrolink out of LA.

30 in Rochelle thats ok but I can top that by seeing 50 trains in 14 hours without missing one [^].beating my record of 45 trains in 14 hours at Folkston looking to get past that on day.

Trainboy, the three CNWs are still going around in their original numbers–for now. There’s another thread here detailing what’s probably their last great adventure.

they are in Wisconsin now

MISINFORMATION! I WAS GIVEN MISINFORMATION!

Still not convinced on that new BNSF design. But like everyone else said, the CNW photo is a keeper. Took a trip out to UP’s main in Nebraska. Well over 100 trains in 2 days. To bad I needed sleep.
