Rochelle Web Cam

Well at least the UPRR has some money for upgrading the plant as a long UPRR WB work train just hit the diamond. [:o)]

[?] And just how is this news anything out of the normal? I am leaving shortly for Rochelle and will report back later today on my trip to the diamonds and what I saw while there. If you happen to see a black car parked near the diamonds on the web cam in about ninety minutes or so, that will be me.

You should be out there by now, Eolafan. Judging from the action I’ve seen around here, UP should be hopping! Pat and I were out running payday errands, and got blocked every time we attempted to cross the UP–by two trains at a time. When we went to lunch in Elmhurst, we came upon one freight overtaking another on adjacent tracks–definitely the coolest train-watching event to see (followed shortly by a third freight in the other direction)!

Don’t see your car yet, unless that huge truck by the diamond flattened it!

Well I was sort of being cynical. [:o)]
So far as of 1314 hrs CDT no black car on the cam [:D][:o)]

If those were the trains on cam it was there also. One was a TOFC train with orange trailers? [:D][:o)]

OK, this may sound like a stupid question but since when did the webcam start streaming pics every few seconds??

May, 2000.

OK, I’m back from Rochelle and wow was it ever busy! When I arrived I attempted to park at the diamonds but the big white UP trucks (2 of them) blocked my personal parking space (only kidding). I went over to the RailPark and walked down to the bottom of the stairs and waved at the camera (that would have been me in the brown jacket holding the scanner…the “recent pictures” are way backed up and the shots with me in them should be on the site later.

Well, I say mostly UP trains. A eastbound coal train had been stuck just east of Rochelle since 11 a.m. with the trailing two of three total units shut down for lack of cooling water. Well, the dispatcher had the power off of a following manifest freight cut off and run light through town and up to the back of the coal train to help push it over “the hill” and into Elburn where a fire truck would meet it and pump water into the two trailing units that were broken down. I heard the ensuing action on my scanner and eventually the “light” power came back after about two hours (a rare consist of a GE Dash 8, an ex-C&NW SD40-2 and a MP15 which was not running). At one point there was a BNSF intermodal coming up the track towards the diamonds as well as the UP light power previously mentioned AND a UP empty coal train westbound with a UP SD9043 and a Dash 9…you had to see this to appreciate it…it was really cool. Well the rest of the afternoon was one train after another on both UP and BNSF but it was getting rather cool (temperature wise that is…55 is kind of cool with no real sun), and I called it a day. Rochelle is one of my favorite spots for just these reasons.

[(-D]…

Until today I always had to refresh my page to see a new image. That is quite odd that it just started doing it for me today.

Aha so that was you! Hope you saved some pix like my son did when I visited last Oct. [:o)]

Yes, that was me in the “recent images” shot taken at 12:32 p.m. yesterday. I can bee seen in a brown jacket at the edge of the fence watching the light power move across the diamonds to help pu***he eastbound coal train over the hill and into Elburn for water fill up.
