Rocky Mountaineer operated a test run from Denver, CO, via Glenwood Springs, CO, and Moab, Utah, west to Salt Lake City, Utah, on March 26 - 28, 2025. This was a training trip for potential extension of the excursion train into SLC come 2025. New labeling - The Canyon Spirit -! The “Canyon Spirit” is the new name for the Rocky Mountaineer luxury train in the American Southwest, and it will launch in 2026, offering scenic rail journeys between Denver and Salt Lake City, with stops in Moab and Glenwood Springs.
Rocky Mountaineer crossed Union Pacific’s Soldier Summit on UP’s Green River Subdivision 28 March 2025 headed for Salt Lake City, Utah. Test run with RMRX 8020 & 8021, GP40-3, and 8-cars. Train departs Salt Lake City towards Denver on Saturday, 29 March 2025. Test run - no paying passengers.
