Rod Stewart...

Don’t know if anybody has seen ths yet;

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/3668740/Rod-Stewart-is-a-model-railway-enthusiast.html

Our Editor, Carl, wrote the story about his layout for Model Railroader back in their Dec 07 issue, I believe. I was surprised he wasn’t modeling UK trains …

Reportedly overheard…“honey, are you going to be laying track again tonight?”

I bet he had a bigger budget for buying train stuff than all us put together - well at least I dont feel like such a nerd for liking to buy trains.

If the dude who wrote the article just learned ‘yesterday’ that Rod Stewart is a model railroader, he hasn’t been paying attention. Rod’s layout was on the cover of Model Railroader a year and a half ago. He models big city US prototype in HO.

What I found interesting (from the original MR article) is that Rod builds models in his hotel rooms during tours…

Well, this is the first I have heard of Rod’s enthusiasm, and to tell the truth, I don’t pay any attention to Model Railroader.

And, as stated above, can you imagine the collections and layouts any one of us would have had we just a fraction of his train budget?

There are a decent number of famous musicians and entertainers into model railroading and trains. I was surprised at how many model railroaders among us happen to be not so famous musicians, which is the category I fit in[(-D]! Trains are inherently rhythmic, particularly yesteryear’s steamers. Even the relatively quiet beasts of today frequently tow a percussion section of flat spotted wheel sets kickin’ out a tasty groove. No horn section captures the soul quite like the trumpeting diesel horn echoing off the hillsides of a river valley somewhere in the lonely night. If this hobby is for geeks, geeks is in good company!

That’s cool! I do know that NFL Quarterback Gus Ferrotte is a model railroader, O gauge I believe.

And who knows how many famous people are on this board that of course use a made up screen name like most of us do.

I have a friend who works at a certain Chicago hotel frequently by Mr. Stewart when in town. As I think was mentioned in the MR article, Mr. Stewart has a room cleared and spends some down-time working on a building or rolling stock for his layout with equipment he brings in. My friend was enormously impressed with Mr. Stewart’s modeling skill.

You mean a steam locomotive whistle, right?[(-D] Just joking, to each is own.

Yeah I am facsinated with Rod Stewart’s HO scale layout. It really inspires me. It’s probably the best model railroad I have ever seen in my opinion. I like it when he said " I pity a man who doesn’t have a hobby like this." LOL
