rolling stock for an accucraft ruby no.2

g’day everybody,
does anyone have any ideas of some thing (rolling stock) that would look good on the back of a ruby no.2
me[?]

Hartland mini-line cars, LGB Feldbahn cars, Accucraft (AMS) two axles cars, Sierra products two axle cars all look good.

In my opinion basically anything that falls into the broad catagory Narrow Gauge[^]
should I think look good with a Ruby
I would sugest getting Brandbright loop couplings for it they will give you the hook for the English center buffer three link chain coupling with the curved rubbing loop for industreal stock.
Which when set at the correct hight will couple to to both types of coupling the English one and LGB and its varieations it was designed to work that way[:D]
Hartland minis ARE REASONABLY PRICED, very easy build if you want to save a few Pounds/Dollars and get the kits and also the flat tops could be used as ready made chassis for box vans and small coaches like on the Ffestiniog (spelling) railway[2c]

For HLW Mini-line cars. Just one thing, CHANGE THE WHEELS. The plastic wheels on this small a car is trouble, switch to some bachmann metal wheels, large dia., the added wieght and better rolling will make these cars will perform far far better [:D].

Same for any of the small two axle cars like LGB’s that offer plastic wheels only. Adding the metal wheels cost a few pennies more but it is very much worth doing.

Forgot about that[:(]
I normaly change plastic wheels out as fast as I can they sound better and leave far less gunge behind to interfear with electrical conductivety
and as you point out are an easy way to add weight where it is needed low down on the track.

Hello I Like Live Steam,

So do I! I am on a VERY limited budget, so the Ruby is perfect for me. I’ve teamed my Ruby No. 7 (with tender) with Bachmann 1:20 cars. They look great! I have the gondola, box car and caboose. They are only 20 footers so don’t overpower the Ruby. Also, the combine. I don’t know if the combine is 1:20, but it looks real good with the Ruby.

you might want to condsider a HLW or USA Sierra combine or passenger car. These are short 20 foot type car and would look FAR better behind a Ruby than the longer B’mann passenger cars., They are pricier though so you might have to save up a little longer for one.

By the way,

If you are pressed for money, try scratchbuilding one. Sulpher Spring’s Models offers loads of boilers, wheel castins, whistles, and every thing else to build a live steam locmoitve. Or an Accucraft Ruby#1. They offer an exellent kit as well as ready to run for the loco. Hope I helped.
