Rplace pull bar on tender

I found a 234W tender at my parents house in VG condition. The 243 Steamer was trashed, actually held together with electrical wire! I soon found out that the reason the tender is in such great shape is because the pull bar that the engine attaches to was cut off just beyond the hole! I know I can remove the truck, but where do I find a replacement?? I apologize for not knowing the correct term for this “pull bar”.

John

You’re close; it’s a “drawbar”. I would make a replacement piece, of either brass or steel, and solder it to the stump with a lap joint. If you want it completely authentic, someone else may be able to help.

The part # for the drawbar is #6026-7.

Will run you a couple bucks from the parts dealers.

The drawbar for a majority of postwar, and prewar tenders are the same part. Normally I would direct you to Trainz.com, but it seems that their website is going a little haywire right now. Check back with them and search “drawbar”.

Try Jeff Kane at The Train Tender, www.ttender.com. He should have them

Thanks Butleryard. Everyone has been so helpful, I love this Forum. One question? The part numbering is very confusing. Lionel has it listed as 80-6026-007. Some stores sell it as 6026-007. When searching for a part how do you know how much of the number to use??

John

John, for an example, we will use your part, the drawbar. The postwar # 6026-7 is the number most stores would go by.

Then came the modern era, after postwar and Lionel change/ added to their numbering system and added a 3 digit prefix to most of the parts because they came from the postwar era and now were used on some of the modern issued trains.

Either way you should end up with the same part.

The modern part # is 600-6026-007.

The postwar part # is 6026-7
