RPP SD60M Chassis Question

I have a Rail Power Products SD60m shell and frame that I just bought. I want to put wheels on the frame, but I don’t know how.

I saw an article that said I should use an Athearn SD40T-2 motor and trucks for the frame. The only problem is that the trucks do not physically fit on the frame.

Does anybody have an idea on what I should do??

Thanks!

Phil

Dump it and go get yourself a P2K model.

That means: I don’t know

Here is a link that should help. http://www.ppw-aline.com/frrppsd60.htm and

http://www.ppw-aline.com/loco_ref.htm Are you sure you got the right trucks?

Jim

That link for the power trucks and worm gear really helps. I’ve been on the site before, but I never saw that page before. I’ll have to call A-line and see if they can specifically help me out.

In response to the other post, the reason I didn’t buy a P2K model is because the P2K model has a late style cab, and this version has the early style that I like. Maybe I should buy a P2K model and put this cab on it. Hey!! I think I have something there…

Phil

I’m a little confused on your response saying that you want an early cab. Are you talking about a three window cab? If that be the case then I am still correct:

It’s been a couple of years since I built any SD60s, but I seem to remember using SD40-2 trucks. The T-2 chassis can be used (same length) for the SD60 but a lot of grinding is needed for the body to fit.

Here is another which may help: http://hoseeker.net/assemblyexplosionAthearn/Assembly%20Explosion%20Athearn%20SD40T-2.jpg

Good luck with the project.

Jim

P2K makes a 3 window SD60M? I’ll have to check that out…

Phil

Phil,

This might be a big problem but I had a hard time finding the two that I have. This was back about 3 years ago and I called all around. I ended up finding one BN and one UP at Mizell Trains out of Denver. Try them or even Caboose Hobbies. Good luck. I really love my two, they run real well.
