I have purchased an American Flyer train set.Do I have to set up the return loop the ame way you would for “HO?”
The quick answer is yes–as you would do in HO. This link is to a download of a Flyer manual which has the information and well as loads of other useful information.

Elaborating a bit, any HO compatible reverse loop scheme will work for American Flyer. If you are running AF AC engines then there are slightly simpler schemes that can work since rail polarity does not determine engine direction of travel. This is of most interest with track plans that have more than one reverse loop.
Thanks so much for your help.we’ll get it figured out now.Hopper
Back in the day Flyer produced two accessory kits to deal with the reverse loop wiring issues. One kit (Part 698) consisted of a set of pressure-sensitive track trips, insulating pins, and a double-throw / double-pole switch. The later kit (Part 695) substituted an automatic relay mechanism for the DPDT switch. Both kits are scarce items today.
