He didn’t describe his situation there. But if he really knew Germans, he would know that most think for themselves (independent styles) and highly value that quality but at the same time, tend to follow rules and customs. It might seem like a contradiction but unless you live with Germans and have a number of good friends and relatives, you might think like the poster.
Yes but sometimes folks tend to base their opinions on their own life experiences and historical prejudices more than they pause and stop and ask others about what they lived through and so there isn’t much learning going on beyond just repeating what people already know. People talk past each other a lot. Some of the folks were caught up in what happened over there and did bad things before they fully comprehended what was going on and then they were trapped. In regards to Austria, the borders were shut rapidly so a lot of people that wanted to leave were trapped as well.
Hannity learned is from Limbaugh!
Looking at the graph of usage, it looks like the term sheeple shot up like a rocket starting 2001. I think that correlates with Hannity’s radio syndication popularity just before 9/11.
Which might not even be remotely related to his use of the term. He only made one post.
Balt: Could be, but Rush was funnier.
CMStP: What’s your beef? Read my words accurately. I didn’t suggest the poster actually got it from Hannity, et alia. Just the facts that followers of Sean are typical users and the term got popularized by Sean and maybe Rush. Correlation is not necessarily causation.
Just want to see new posters stretch their legs some before they are pounced on. Otherwise the forums here are going to go dead.
Well ain’t that just special! You think I was rough on the guy? I asked the guy what he meant by HIS use of the term. And in a follow up questioned his application of the term to Germans. He made one post. Never explained.
Some folks would suggest he is a troll (I prefer the term provocateur) “but I couldn’t possibly comment on that!”
I don’t remember Rush ever using that term.
In my experience on political sites, the term was used mainly by Libertarians referring to both Conservatives and Liberals.
In Germany the incident is called sabotage.
Sabotage: Primarily focused on causing damage or disruption, often with a specific, limited objective.
Terrorism: Driven by political, religious, or ideological goals, aiming to instill fear and influence a wider audience through violence or threats.
The burnt cables were connections between signals and points and the control center. If their power circuit is interrupted, the affected signals or the signals securing the turnout section automatically go the stop aspect. This prevents major accidents.
These fires can be used to interrupt operations, but certainly not to spread fear and terror, especially as the letter of confession was only posted on a website known to a few.
This was sabotage, not terrorism.
If the message was what those folks actually believe, then the action related to the origin of the term, sabotage = sabot (wooden shoe) tossed into power looms to impede mechanization of the weavers. Fultile attempt to stop industrialization in the 18th C.
Hannity used the term a lot as did libertarians, who mostly seemed like a bunch of rightists trying to dress up their true goals in an air of respectability.
Ah Rush the great entertainer, bloviating his way into the minds of middle America!
Participation is lessened because there have been too many “community flags” and lockdowns on popular, if controversial threads. Sport radio and ESPN shows are popular because they generate pseudo-arguments.
Deleted by York1. I won’t bite. I won’t bite. I won’t bite.
I hope you aren’t stifling these discussions. The worst was the trucking thread where corrections were flagged and removed.
If this post or prior ones get locked, it says loud and clear that it’s rigged. On the Model Rail forum a thread about selling layouts turned into a thread about selling and flipping remodeled homes. Off topic? Yes by a country mile.
I haven’t flagged a post in my life. I also try not to post things that may draw a flag on a railroad forum. Things like “Amerika”.
Corrected. Thank you!!
If you read the first post, it was about selling a house with a model railroad layout in the basement. That is a pretty good post to transition into selling or remodeling a house.
