Providing service to the college could be the lure that attracts riders if a bus does not compete for ridership.
Sorry, but a streetcar that runs only every 20 minutes will never attract substantial bussiness.
Besides, running a parallel bus does not help either.
I guess if near a school, they will only have young people that will use the street cars. There no old people there who will out run or bike faster then the street cars. If your 70 + l don’t think you’re going to want to race a street car. I guess there are few cars to slow down the bues there also.
Typical government action, the first phase was a failure so they compound their error by building the second phase. You have to wait 20 minutes for the street car to take you 2 miles at 10mph with frequent stops. Why would anyone take this when you could walk it in a few more minutes and get some good exercise in the bargain? And, you would save your $1. If you can’t walk 2 miles, how much would a cab cost?
I’m sure that cab fare will cost twenty times the dollar fare, Bobby. Ten dollars just to turn on the meter.
Nothing wrong with the streetcar route. But the competing bus route has to go. The whole point of light/commuter rail is to remove vehicles from the streets. Every place that has had success routes the buses to support the rail, not directly compete.
