My son has told me he is off to some briefing at Cisco’s facility in San Jose and he offered to look into a train shop for me and pick up some stuff. This is a great offer as it will get me some goodies without the expense of postage/freight/customs duty/GST but I need to know where to send him. I have checked out the listings on the back pages Retail Directory in MR and the closest seems to be “The Train Shop” in Santa Clara. Am I right ? Is this a good store to send him ? I am into north American outline HO so generic stuff will be the sort of thing I will ask him to buy. For locals, I think he will be staying/working somewhere near the intersection of Nimitz Fwy and Mountain View-Alviso Fwy. I think. (lots of sleuthing on Google to get that presumption.)
I presume he will be able to get to Pruneridge Ave reasonably easily from there ??
Any input will be appreciated.
Thanks.[?]
Oh yes, the Train Shop is very good. I lived out in that neck of the woods for about 8 years and they took their share of my money! I think they are closed on Sundays and Mondays, but otherwise, forge ahead.
Pruneridge is near 880 (check it out on Mapquest), in a strip center at the corner with N. Winchester). It is close to where 880 and 280 connect. I’m not aware of another shop any closer, although there are others out there.
They don’t have a web site, to my knowledge, but have quite a selection. Most things are priced a bit less than retail. Most of their store is HO, but it is far from exclusively so. The staff is pretty helpful and the place is usually somewhat busy.
To this day, when I go out there for other reasons, I stop in there.
The Train Shop is awesome. I use to live 2 blocks from it. They have a huge selection.
Enjoy!
Great shop, great staff, good prices, great selection (I think it’s the best shop west of Caboose Hobbies).
