Hi guys
particularly those in UK.
How big are sarcen stones?? am thinking of using them as a main scenic
feature and reason for the railway being there in the first place on a small winter indoor line.
Travel the ??light railway to the Giants Doorway kind of thing.
Big looks right is OK for toy soldiers battles already done that.
But only correct is good enough for the trains[:D].
Regards John
The last time I was there they looked around 4 times my height -so I would say somewhere around 8m would be a good guess.

You could get an idea by looking at this site http://www.mysteriousbritain.co.uk/majorsites/stonehenge.html
Hi Ralph
24’ Is that the upright or does that include the cap stone as well
what about the depth and thickness of the stone.
Oh and before I forget [%-)] over all width of two uprights with a cap stone
Which would give a scale hight of 384 mm just as well its to be the main feature
other than a rather smaller halt [:D]
regards John
I could put one finger on each edge -so possibly 1.8m across. No, the cap stones are about the same thickness as the standing stones.
I stand 2.05m tall and weigh 105Kg…
so: height of standing stone 8m
dimension 1.8m square
seperation about 2m
cap stones overhang about 0.5m at each end and about 1.8m square
(It almost makes you want to believe in the rubbish about the Megalithic yard.)
If you want correct dimensions you will have to wait until after 21st of June. Not only Druids go to Salisbury Plain -but also those people going to the Solstice Rock Concert!!!

Hi Ralph
Those dimentions when I calculate out to scale are going to make a
very impressive monument.
My guess is it is one of those questions thats a bit like how long is a piece
of string at each monument it is different.
At least being indoors I can use white foam to make it rather than having to buy blue foam.
If you don’t mind geting the real measurements please do,
in the mean time I will see what it looks like with your estimated measurements
Hope I can do as good a job as I did with the now a bit care worn and damaged wargames one.
Must try and repair it one day.
Don’t get run over by any tanks while your there
regards John
I think you can get a good used set from Spinal Tap that would be just about the right size.
hi Gallopinggoose
Sorry for the delay replying
Got a bit side tracked by the link you provided some very interesting stuff on
that site.
It adds the question what dia is one of those old fashioned things
called an LP record[:D]
That strikes me as a nice size for a barrow could possably put one of those
on as well might be able to pick up an LP at a junk shop somewhere[:D]
Looks like an order to Home and Colonial for some suitable custom made figures and the cake shop for some toad stools as well.
regards John
Somehow, a scene from “Spinal Tap” comes to mind.
Spinal Tap
Hi Torby
Hmm sounds like something grusome???
I think I wilI stick with “I am Arthur king of the Britons”
Hinky Punks, Red Caps, Wizards and Druid type stuff on this one, more believable as an ex mineral now tourist type narow gauge railway with Jones the steam as the driver
Please don’t any one come back with 'king of the who" [swg]
regards John
Having friend in College who were musicians, I’m very familiar with the movie, “This is Spinal Tap.”
“But ours go to 11.”
John mate.
I don’t quite know how much of an Aussie you are or how much of a Pom you still are, but i will tell you that this subject has a curse on it . If i were you i wouldn’t dicuss it anymore or all your chooks will turn into Cassowaries and kick your dunny down.

Hi Iandor
I was born in the UK have lived in the best country in the
world over 3/4 of my life.
I am an Aussie and have the bit of paper to prove it[:D]
Err I think you mean emu’s no cassowarries in sandgroper country[:D]
anyway a quick word with Myrddin should fix the little problem you mention
regards John
John mate;
You are mistaken emu’s are fairly easy to get on with, in fact some of them are pretty freindly; howevr cassoweries are a different matter. Or am i mistaken do yoy not have them over there in the desert.
Rgds ian
PS actually it was only a ploy to push an old barrow of mine. I actually used some quite bad language and no one supervising this forum knew. What is swearing ?
Hi Iandor
Some times the divison by a common language is handy[swg]
Only emu’s in my neck of the woods they have about the same level of inteligence as a piece of fire wood.
From what I have seen of cassowaries on the nature documentaries
I don’t want to meet one
Thanks for the offer but no thanks you can keep them.
By the way saw the piece on your line in the club mag very nice.
regards John
Thanks for the compliment John; the club is coming up here for a running day 10 th June first one in Queensland
