Saw New Book on Lehigh Valley...

I had no idea that the who line was double track all the way from Buffalo to New Jersey. This abandonment may have been larger thenthe Laccawanna.
Why did conrail even bother to aquire this railroad whenit was going to be torn up in less then 2 years

I do not know why they did, but I know it was a huge and vital link when the LV ran there. I have been reading the book “ALCo’s to Allentown” published by The Railroad Press, and was written by Thomas Biery. Lots of pix, and the captions as well as the chapter lines are well written.

Well for transcons to New York city from Buffalo you had the Erie,Laccawanna,New York Central,Pennsy, and the Lehigh Valley also the B&P…Sombody had to go?

The LV was mostly single-tracked in 1976 when the Conrail takeover happened. Most places in New York State had been single tracked for quite some time.
