Saw the Rio Grande Heritage Locomotive Today - UP1989!

I live in Southern Colorado. Driving down the intrerstate my wife said, “Hey, that train says Rio Grande.” It was the heritage I’ve had an eye out for since it was released. Had time to go home, get the camera and head down to the old Depot where it was pulling out as I arrived. For me, a thrill. Beautiful.

I know pictures of this have been posted before, but there’s mine.

Which way was it heading? Hopefully I will be able to get a look at it here in the Springs.

That is one handsome locomotive

You can always find where and when it is coming and going on this web site:

Just look down the list for its number 1989.

There must have been some delay, because normally it departs NYard about 1:00 a.m. and arrives Pueblo like 5:00 a.m.

Yes, TZ, must have been a delay. It rolled in at about 1 PM.

Sorry Smitty, headed South.

Thanks for the responses. I will catch it some other time, I’m sure.

Sorry, but after seeing photos of both the Rio Grande and Espee “Heritage locos”, my total reaction is that Union Pacific deserves to be shot. And I MODEL Rio Grande and Espee!! Yuck!!

CLEAN RG and SP locos?!?!?!?!?!? What’s this world coming to? I can’t say I’m a fan of modern locos, but I must admit, even on a beastly looking thing such as that, that is still one sharp looking paint scheme (especially when it’s CLEAN!).

Too bad UP won’t be getting any royalty money from me since I model Southern Railway in 1957. NS, on the other hand, well, let’s just say I hope they don’t get so greedy as to start collecting royalties. I’d hate to have to start modelling SAL and ACL.
