What can I use to thin scalecoat paints.
Scalecoat thinner works well [;)]
Be sure to use the right one for the type of Scalecoat you are using…Scalecoat I or II. Although I’ve used I thinner wirh II paint and nothing bad happened. I think the I or II thing has more to do with the material you are painting.
I’ve also used plain old paint thinner from a hardware store to clean Scalecoat out of my airbrush and paint brushes.
I use mineral spirits…works well.

Have you visited the Weaver Model’s Scalecoat page? Maybe you will find some tips there?

Another option:
I’ve been using Klean-Strip Lacquer thinner for the past 2 years with Scalecoat II paint and have had good results.
In the photo the car has Scale Coat 2 paint that was thinned with the Klean Strip thinner. The finish was very smooth and wet in appearance. Klean strip is available at many hardware stores and home depot.

I’ve thinned it as well using hardware store brand laquer thinners. Really didn’t see much difference in the resulting finish - plus, it dried a whole lot faster !
