scratch building brass models

Hey guys this is something I have been interested in and was wondering if anyone new of a similar format like the one here with a forum for scratch built brass model trains… LMK Joseph

I don’t know of any forums but there is a bending jig for making folded brass kits. It would probably be handy for scratch building as well. I can’t remember the company names but they are advertised in British model railroad magazines.

If you are referring to locomotive building, this website offers a PDF document on this subject. I have purchased it and it is a very comprehensive step-by-step instruction to build a finished locomotive.

Of course, you need to do the research to obtain the reference plans, photos, etc. if you are interested in a particuar prototype. There are several sources for everything from the drivers to the steam domes so one needn’t fabricate every part to make a very complete and accurate model.

I bought it to be used as a guide in scratchbuilding the New Haven’s L-1 2-10-2 using the drive mechanism from the IHC SF version.

Thanks I did not see the pdf before but I will look into it… I would like to start with a caboose or a freight car. I saw some kits for sale so I was thinking of picking on up and going from there… Joseph
