Hi, does anyone know when SD7 #991 got it’s B&O colour and road number. I know when it got purchased but how long did it take for the B&O to re paint it?
I want all of the B&O’s SD7’s and the 760 isn’t available, however, the 760 was the 991 when it got bought so I thought that it might be a fun thing to ad a little colour to the layout.
Most EMD demonstrator engines tour several railroads over a 6 month-1 year time frame. At that point, EMD sells them. Most of the time the engine is overhauled by EMD, railroad specific options are added/removed, and the engine painted in the buyer’s scheme. The engine leaves the EMD plant with a new engine warranty. So, unless the demonstrator was damaged on the B&O and they purchased it at the time; I doubt if it was in service in he EMD demo scheme. Of course you could model it in the time frame when it was touring(1952). The B&O Historical group might have more information about this engine.
Thanks for the info, I kind of suspected this. I might just use it as a demonstrator unit then. In a way that would be better because then I could get the PCM #990 instead.
