It appears that the SD70M-2 Demos that have been working on Norfolk Southern recently have been sold.
I recently spotted EMDX 75 sitting at TRRA’s Madison Yard Engine shop last Tuesday. When I went out again Friday, the unit have beeen stripped of ALL EMD markings, and the number boards were blank, When I went out again Yesterday, there was a CEFX SD70M-2 sitting on the Other side of the engine shop.
Could it be that EMD sold the SD70M-2 Demo’s to CEFX?
It kind of confuses me why EMD sold the Demos, are the SD70ACe Demos next in line to be sold, or have they been sold too?
I believe that the SD70ACe demos were sold to CIT Financial as CEFX 140-142.
It’s not unusual for demonstrators to be sold relatively quickly.
Its kind of old news, word made the rounds about two months ago, that this had happened. It just took awhile for them to be repainted. It may even have been because of the sale of EMD by GM. No signs that the SD70ACes have been sold.
Perhaps no one has been interested.
I’d think that someone would jump at the shot for a new locomotive with limited mileage (anyone know a specific number?) and thus for a cheaper price, especially a short line.
