Searching for Bowser PRR engine kits

If you have one of these kits that needs a new home, or your local hobby shop has one growing dust, please pass along the contact info. I am hunting a M1a Mountian, I1 Decapod and T1 Duplex with the diecast tender. Prefer all unbuilt and with the superdetail kit if possible but not required. I am one of those modelers that prefers the “built like a tank” diecast engines, and the ruling grades on our club layout demand them. The new engines from BLI and Proto 2K are wonderfull, but without the traction tire, you might as well leave them at home. And I hate traction tires. So while the RTR stuff is great, I will build my own. Happy Holidays everybody! Mike and Michele T

Hi Mike and Michele.

Unfortunately since Bowser has announced they are discontinuing the kits the models have been few and far between. If you do find one the price is outrageous or there are parts missing. A call to Bowser is the best thing to do right now. They may have a few left.

I found an A5 kit at the Marlboro train show this weekend. The price sticker that said $71.95 was Xed over. I asked how much? $150 was the reply. It was minus the super detail parts and someone had painted the boiler and tender shell with a paint brush. I set it down and walked away shaking my head.

It will take some time for dealers to come to thier senses on pricing. I remember seeing Rivarossi 2-8-8-2 engines for obscene prices at train shows well after the newer Protos came out that ran and looked much better. They have finaly gotten the idea you cant get $100+ for old NYC Hudsons ect. If the demand wasnt there for the kits before, it wont be there for scalping them for huge amounts of money. I am patient and will just buy the BLI version is folks get stupid on kit prices. Mike

my girlfriend won my T-1 from ebay… the guy had it as bid or buy it now for 99.99… she hit buy it now…

My wife watches for stuff for me as well, but with me being laid off from work, I am able to watch ebay like a hawk right now. Plus I am a member of a few other places to watch for used or preowned trains. I will say, I am almost scared to handle my Proto 2K NKP Berkshire its so fragile. Even a superdetailed Bowser isnt this fragile. And they pull so much better. I put two of my older brass engines on ebay to generate funds to buy a few engines. Heck, I would trade the 3 truck shay for a T1 that looks as good as joseywales’s engine BTW Great job on your T1!

well I’m trying to get another T-1 and I’m done with getting anymore T-1’s…I want the S-2 S-1 Q-1 Q-2 any articuated and proto type PRR trains… I’m orignaly from PA,closer to Erie…Hay if you want your train painted,I’ll give you a screaming deal to do one for you…It’s fun to paint…anything with wheels or fly or floats…Did you get my PM???

Yepper sure did, my wife is from Lake City PA and we lived in Fairview just west of Erie the last 8 years, till may of 2008 when we inherited my late grandmother’s house here in Kokomo Indiana, which is where I grew up. If I can find a T1, I will have you paint it. Yes I got the PM, I sent ya an email thru this site, not sure if you got it. Mike

We lived in the mobile home park on the corner of Bear Creek Rd and Rt 20. My wifes folks still live in Lake City, her dad is retired from GE/Military and we have friends all over that part of PA. We miss the friends we had and the beautifull area, but not the snow! My wife wants to know what year you graduated ect. She is she knows ya. PM me and we can go direct to email.
