Seeking a pic of JTT Cut Stone BLOCK styrene wall

Anyone built any structures using JTT (MRC) cut block stone wall sheets? The micro mark and other pics only show a flat/face view. I’m seeking a material to use for my Milwaukee Union Station (Walthers) for a concourse base/box with portals for my passenger yard. Any close ups of other styrene block stone (not cinder block) for comparison would also be appreciated. 3/4 views would be helpful if you have anything easy to get to/or post.

I’m not interested in photo-paper versions, just styrene, thanks.

It’s getting nearly impossible to see and compare these things in a brick and mortar hobby store!

Thanks if you can help,

Jim

I’m also interested in the long Noch (I think) Steinmaur stone walls (foam this time) if anyone has experience or pics to share.

Thanks again, Jim

Jim,

I’ll get back to You in a couple day’s…should have my order by then. I have the MRC brick street sheets that resemble the Walthers brick street system, but have not used them yet. Ordered the rough brick to see if that will work also, with that order are stone wall sheets to see if that will also work for my planned scene. I agree it is hard to tell from a pic’…but price wise it is worth it so far. Get back with You when I can.

Take Care! [:D]

Thanks Frank! I recently read that they are not 1:87 but 1:100 but don’t know if that’s accurate or not… looking foward to seeing what you think.

Jim,

I can get a pic of it in the white, so to speak, but it will be hard to see the texture like that. I’ll post some pics of a station I recently built from it. It should show the texture pretty well. It says both HO and 1:100 on the package IIRC. There is a lot of 1:100 architectural stuff out there, so probaboly the reason they market it as such. Unless you’re worried a specific size of cut stone, you’ll never notice a difference. I’ve also used their brick sheets and it looks OK in HO, too. The corruagted stuff is way too big for galvanized sheeting. It’smore like some of the concrete sheeting I’ve seen used a few places, with much wider corruagtions than metal would ever have in HO.

Hi Mike. Thanks very much! The 3rd pic down was especially helpful for me to see the mortar lines and rock edges. I’m may order a couple of sheets and see if the blocks will be large enough to “hold up” the rather huge Milwaukee Station.

I like the (larger) medium sized Chooch stick on walls and use them as retaining walls but for the Milw. Station it would have to be interspersed with styrene concrete trim pieces and portal “frames” so I’ll have to try an experiment with the JTT and Chooch and maybe others to get this centerpiece of the layout looking just right.

I greatly appreciate the time to post the pics, Mike.

Jim,

I forgot to mention…but also take a look at Plastruct offerings of brick and stone block and other concrete sheets. I also have some of those coming in my order to try out.

Take Care! [:D]

Frank

Frank, thanks. I’ve looked at plastruct online so far… After seeing the JTT cut stone block I’m thinking it will likely be too small for my concourse base. I’m still leaning towards the Chooch sized medium cut stone size. I’d like to look at some S Scale cut block sheets to see if they’d be too big or not.

My current plan would be to make “frame” shapes of white/concrete portals and architectual trip and glue them around pre-cut Chooch stick on “interior” block work. I think if I make the “frame” pieces slightly thicker than the Chooch walls, it could look great. BUT…I need to check out what’s available in styrene before deciding on a design and method.

I so far, haven’t been able to locate similarly sized blocks in HO styrene. Maybe I should look at S Scale material…

Thanks again,

Jim
