Yep, I did it again. Except this time the track is too long and already caulked down. I can use the xuron rail cutters to cut the length but how can I undercut the tie connector to clear the rail joiner? A number 11 xacto blade? A dremel with a very small burr? Ideas are really needed here.
Thanks,
BB
Take a razor saw and undercut the rail from the tie. This should give you room to insert the rail joiners.
I would use a new xacto blade. Be careful though. The plastic on the tie connecter is soft and you’ll get through it pretty easily.
When I was done and I was able to get the connector in, I soldered the track together, glued a few of the ties back in and after painting and ballesting, you cannot see the fix at all.
good luck.
Thanks guys. That’s why I ask the experts!

I use my rail nippers - and since it’s easy to peel the track up when using caulk, I do just that, peel up enough to get under to snip the plastic. Remember it’s ok to cut a SOFTER material with the rail nippers, just don’t use them on the music wire throws from a Tortoise, you’ll ruin them. To hold it all in place again, when spreading the caulk for the next section to be attached, I spread a bit under the part I lifted as well, attach the new piece, and press it all down. Good as new.
