I can actually envision Fife riding that bike! [(-D]
Fife - if you lived closer you could stop by and use my code reader. I bought two (one from BAVAuto for the BMWs - they don’t use the same code system every other manufacturer uses, and one from Advance for all other cars) they paid for themselves on first use because of how much mechanics and dealers charge to pull codes… Will Wifey ever choose a color? TheQ chose a color for the old house entry way, I’m color blind so I just painted. First time her Dad walked in… “Who would paint their walls a neon purple?”
SOS - Never eaten it, never will. My uncle was a cook on a destroyer during WWII… he wouldn’t eat it, so figured it wasn’t safe for human consumption. [(-D]
Chief - that is heartbreaking!
WRM - I’ve had a number of head scratchers over the years. Every time I do a brake job I have to head to NAPA for a new socket of some sort. I think I have metric up to 25mm now and SAE up to 1.25inch… don’t ask.
Guys I was raised on SOS and I can make the best of it. My dad called it cheap fill and always on toast. The grand-kids fight over it and to tell the truth is not only good but good for you. Why the gov made it for the troops. [Y]
Well I have been back at war with the HVAC in the shed. After I replaced the thermostat, I thought that that heat-off-cool switch must have died because I use it so much. So, I moved the high- and low-pressure lines about 4” to the side so I could put a in-line 120-volt switch on the side of the furnace.
Anyway all was working just fine till I installed the new switch and then ,NOTHING, the circuit board 3 amp fuse was blown??? SO after about 5 fuses I used up trying to find out why I ordered a LIL Popper re-settable breaker so I could trouble shoot it out. When it came in Tuesday, I found a shorted wire in the two wire 18 gauge from the board to the contactor switch on the compressor? That in turn shorted out the new thermostat!! So, I used a old thermostat and a jumper out the window to the compressor to test my theory and it all worked. SO yesterday I picked up another thermostat and today I got a new two wire 18-gauge wire and re-did it all. WOW what a PITA. Can’t imagine what it would of cost to hire someone to do that and I bet they would of just wanted to sell me a new system. Most technicians are a joke today, just parts changers. All I can figure is when I moved the lines and wire to put the switch box on it made the short and maybe that is why it was not kicking in right in the first place?? [:^)]
A lot of wind today and I heard a tree crash out back, I figured it was a dead Ash but when I went to look it is a huge old live oak and right on my back trail….[banghead]
Best get on to the next adventure. [swg]
Great News Doug! I agree w/Doug Kev, you were lucky.
Had a busy day…
- Supervised the crew resurfacing the street with a slurry coat, they did pretty good.
- Washed the car,
- Babysat the house for awhile.
That was enough .
Tomorrow, go to the VA for an eye injection, [8D].
And then in for a hot day and weekend, suppose to get in the 100’s here!! Not unusual for September a week of super heat, then the Santa Ana winds = Fires! Every Year!
Home. Had cute little lady riding with me. Dream Center [Church volunteer organization for feeding and etc.] assistant director. We covered all the trailer parks and individual stops. I bought her a cheeseburger and fries from food trailer. Came to house to eat. Pam and her visited. Then picked tomatoes, hot peppers and grapes. She left with a bag full. Lives with her folks about 6 miles from me. Originally from San Diego.
So hot and humid Wifey is just sitting inside and not gardening. Now I’m doing the same. Need to mow again. Maybe later as it gets cooler. Tomorrow and Sunday to be really cool. Wifey talking about fall decorating.
Been a helluva week. Got very crazy at work Monday and Tuesday, business manager promised something EOD Tuesday that I had to do without letting me know he had promised it. I found out during our Morning Brief at 1 on Tuesday. I was not happy, and he wasn’t even in the call!
We took Linda’s Saturn to our mechanic Angelo Monday evening, we need it to pass inspection. Turns out it needs some work, it’s throwing an SES light which I wasn’t aware of, and the bushing on the passenger side between the control arm and tierod is pushing out. So he was holding onto it until he got the parts. Leading to…
Yesterday was crazy - Linda left for work around 10, calls the home phone about 5-10 minutes later while I’m in the Morning Brief, Tyler grabs it, turns out she went up on the curb and sidewalk to avoid a truck and burst both passenger tires. So she’s okay, didn’t hit the truck, but… Well I beg out of the meeting, grab Tyler, go to start the Camaro, and the battery doesn’t have enough juice. Ugh! Call AAA to tow her and get that moving, then call Angelo. AAA says she can’t ride with the tow truck driver due to Covid, so I go next door and get my neighbor to jump the Camaro. I get texted by Linda right after that the tow is there and is leaving. So I drive the Camaro down there, she’s not there. Check the whole area to see if she is walking, then drive back home. Call her three times, she doesn’t pick up. Finally get a text from her that she’s at Angelo’s. She drives home from there, changes, then heads into work.
Angelo was getting 2 new tires today, needed to get the tires on before he could put it on the lift to see if there’s any other damage. So I am still waiting.
Mornin’ boys. Sunny and 51 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Actually could see my breath outside, while letting the dog do his Maxi-biz. Spent yesterday working on lawn, flower beds, and porch decorating for autumn. Looks “sooo cute”, as Ms Kelly puts it.
And we have a winner = Rhythmic Blue. I should start painting, before something else catches Wifey’s fancy.
Morning all, yesterday’s project was to jackhammer a small ditch across the driveway to run conduit so I could run two circuits to the shed, and get the extension cord up off of the driveway and change it from one circuit to two. Done and wired up and all is good.
I moved the heavy workbench out there the other day. I still have a heavy cabinet I need to move out there. It’s 7’ tall x 3’ wide and 2’ deep made out of 3/4" Plywood with 3 shelves in it made out of 3/4" plywood.
Today no plans for anything strenuous.
81* going to 87*, a welcomed cool down, from the past few days.
Hope you all have a great weekend. We do not have any plans.
Just as I clicked post the internet dropped out, 2 nd time that has happened. so 2nd time typing.
Record breaking heat wave today and tomorrow 117 and 105 monday and over 100 all week. I’ve never seen a forcast that high. And I’m driving to church this afternoon right at the hottest time. And tomorrow driving home at about 1:00 PM.
I’m taking my cane I found and refinished to church 1st time It looks good. The time has come, my ballance is awfull.
Hi guys and gals,
Yesterday was a great day to start out. Woke up to 49 degrees and humidity dew points in the low 40s. My bum knee felt good for the first time in a month. So, I thought it don’t get better than this for clearing that down oak out back. I cut a new trail through the back to get to the back side of the tree. Then I cut the brush off the top in sections just big enough to fit in the bucket with the grapple clamp so I could haul it out to the burn pile. Once I got it cut back and haulled off to where the trail was open, I decided to cut down a dead tree I have had to drive around for years as long as I was at it. That went well and it fell just as planned. Then I got the stump grinder and ground out two 12” to 14” stumps and 4 or 5 little ones. I hauled the good wood to the wood shed to cut and split latter. Then I hauled three buckets of gravel to clean up the trail where I had been working and was very happy with my progress. [Y] As I was walking to the tractor I tripped on a very small twig and yanked my knee back out!!! Go figure, so am in a lot of pain today… My Luck! Sure, sucks to get old. [banghead]
Well the Mercury is down for the count for the moment. Angelo got new tires on it yesterday and drove it, called me and said it didn’t feel right. His thought is that the tierods are bent. He got replacement parts, but didn’t get a chance to work on it before closing today. So I won’t get it back until Tuesday. That sucks. Wish he could have gotten to it today, but I know he’s backed up.
Not much planned for today. Gonna take the boys outside in a little while, too nice a day to waste it. I’ll have to badger them (teenagers ) but they’ll do it. Don’t know what we’ll do, maybe just throw the football or frisbee.
Even though it’s cooler outside, don’t think I’ll get a chance to work on the attic. Just gets too warm up there. I did do some cuts on my chop saw for one specific area where I have to kind of double the 2x4 like a mending plate. I am actually connecting to a vertical stud that I’ve already got a 2x4 connected to. Since this was the first area I worked on over a year and a half ago, I didn’t realize I’d be extending it, so instead of connecting it to half the vertical stud I covered the whole thing. So a stud coming from the other side can’t be connected. I’ll have to take a before and after shot as that will better explain it.
Funny, the more I work on the attic, the more I realize how much I’ve learned from my prior work. Looking back I realize that there are just things I should have done differently, whether to make it more functional or for making it easier to do. But some times you just have to do it in order to learn these things.
Well they weren’t to far off, they missed it by two degrees. We peaked at 115* instead of 113*, either way it is to damn hot. Heaven only knows what the electric bill will be, but on the bright side we haven’t been part of any of the rolling blackouts. Yet !
The healing is in process. Spent a wonderful day at IMS watching the Road to Indy cars compete (also a Mazda Cup (MX-5) event ). Got to see about 2.5 to 3 hours of racing on the road course. No tickets sold nor was the event advertised but the museum was open and so people could park there and we could watch on the spectator mounds inside the oval turn 2. We could see the action from the end of the back stretch to the last turn before the front straight. Weather was perfect. Some people were prepped for the whole day with folding chairs and food and others came from the museum when they heard cars on the track. It did my heart good to see wheels turn at IMS… Not the same as May and not the same as the oval, but it was…home. Met a person I used to race against over 40 years ago. Sometimes you do something and you are pretty sure it is the right thing to do and then you get additional confirmation you were supposed to be there. I also heard today Mid-Ohio is on and fans will be allowed so next weekend is busy as well. There will always be a pain in my heart from this year, but all this helps… I hope everyone has a good day.
Busy morning. Breakfast with Wifey’s friend and hubby outdoors at restaurant. TV Church. Left immediately for Harbor Freight. I got discounted LED florescent shop lights and she got white outdoor lights . Of course, we went by garden/nursery center. She bought two plants and looked at a $100 fish for her pond. Had to install lights atop big pergola out front . Now inside. Will do my lights tomorrow.
Up earlier than I want to be on a holiday because I still have to fix the data for that damn Canadian client. Going on 2 months they can’t fix their daily data stream to us. And all it involves is letting an ID value they get from us pass through their overnight data processing and be returned to us in the morning. Unreal what a bumbling, incompetent bureaucracy they are.
Had a huge dinner last night, steak, baked potato, spicy corn on the grill, grilled onions, red and green peppers and portobello mushroom kabobs. Gonna do salmon tonight.
Gotta drop Linda at work today since we’re down a car. On the way back Tyler and I are going to hit Best Buy and pick up a new wifi extender. Our old one got fried back a month and a half ago. We’ll use that for now, but may get a mesh system down the road.
